POKEYMANS

MY BODY IS READY FOR YOU (already) POKEMON EVENT.

Pokemon: Butterfree ♂
Ability: Tinted Lens
Moveset:
- Aerial Ace
- Acrobatics
- Silver Wind
- Psybeam
Nature: Jolly

And I actually, geekishly, put a lot of thought into the Pokemon/moves/etc. I pick for my character(s) for these events. So here are the others I've chosen for the last time we had this event in-game before I start rambling about things under the cut, also because I wanted to show off the character sprites I made for them, too. '-'!!

Yzak and Pidgeot ♂

Jr. and Flareon ♂

Iolaous and Abra ♂

For the record, you can find the moves/abilities/natures your Pokemon can learn (naturally or through TMs/HMs.etc) HERE and that's what I used to choose my stuff based on what was available for the specific Pokemon chosen. :3c

When it comes to Pokemon themselves, I choose between two categories:
- The character's 'soul Pokemon', aka the Pokemon they would be if they turned into one.
- A Pokemon representive of the character in a different way.

For Dio, Butterfree falls into the soul Pokemon category, whereas the other Pokemon I was considering was Volbeat (or Illumise), also known as firefly Pokemon. :P That one would obviously fall under the representive category because it would represent Lucciola. Butterfree is a flying/bug type which I think is a perfect fit for Dio both for his obvious flying talent but also because of the Guild's focus on insects in the first series with the naming schemes. And Dio in canon (as well as canon art as a result) enjoys playing with butterflies and thinks they are super pretty!! So it's a perfect match all around. Also it has the word free in its name OHOHO!

As an aside, Illumise has one of the same Abilities that Butterfree does that I ended up choosing for it (Tinted Lens). But its other ability is Oblivious, which nulls attacks like Cute Charm/Attract/Captivate and other opposite gender-hitters. Which is hilarious and also why I wibbled so hard on choosing because HAHAHAHA immune to opposite gender fuck-arounds (Illumise is the female side to Volbeat).

For Yzak, I went more with representive, though IMO Pidgeot is a good match for him as well. Yzak's partner has a mullet, so I went with Pidgeot for that reason, though Pidgeot is also a very regal-looking, sharp flying type, traits that match Yzak and his piloting skills as well as the general air of him. For reference, I consider Yzak's soul Pokemon to be Voltorb because Voltorb not only has Yzak's expression, but there is a joke in canon about Yzak getting so angry that his head was going to explode. And Voltorb's signature move is ... Self-Destruct, so in essence its head is exploding. Jolteon and Scyther I also associate with him (Scyther's Japanese name being STRIKE being one but not the only reason).

For Jr., I went with soul Pokemon. The URTVs are literally the Eeveelutions, and Jr. is Flareon hands freaking down. Each Eeveelution has its own special talent that branches off of the original Eevee, so Eevee itself would be the 'standard' URTV with the 'eons being the variants (Albedo and Gaignun being Espeon and Umbreon respectively). Though Jr.'s main attack, the Red Dragon is a wavelength, in Episode III they turn the in-battle attack into a fire-type, and Jr.'s main association is with the color red, hence Flareon.

Iolaous I also went soul Pokemon with. Abra pisses everyone off with its STUPID TELEPORT ABILITY AND RUNS AWAY BEFORE YOU CAN DO SHIT!! Iolaous' main talent? Teleportation. :)

As asides, when I played Meer in Sabra, she turned into a Jigglypuffy for that Pokemon event, which would be her soul Pokemon. Jigglypuff is the pink puffy cute singing Pokemon, and Meer is pink, cute and her main gig in Destiny is to sing. When I played Snow, I had thought about theoreticals and ended up with Cubchoo as his soul Pokemon-- because it evolved into Beartic (more representive of Snow's HUGENESS) but Snow is a big softie inside and the cuter evolution fit him more IMO. Also, ice type against his ice attacks and Shiva summon.

Moving on to abilities, now!!

Dio's Butterfree gets Tinted Lens (as opposed to the other Ability, Compound Eyes). Tinted Lens basically lets any attack that would be 'it's not very effective' and treats it like a normal attack, thus not sucking and instead hitting an opponent normally. Compound Eyes is an accuracy-upper for attacks. I think both attacks are very fitting in terms of Dio, so it was hard choosing between the two. :x I went with Tinted Lens because I think that's the one Dio would choose himself-- when faced with an enemy, he'd prefer to be able to damage it if it was very defended and strong against him as opposed to just being able to have better accuracy. Especially because being a flying type puts Butterfree at a speedier advantage to land attacks, so you gain more with Tinted Lens since any elemental strengths against it are nulled.

Yzak's Pidgeot got Tangled Feet (as opposed to Keen Eye and Big Pecks) for the same reasons as above. Tangled Feet ups evasion when the Pokemon is confused, giving it a better chance to dodge until the status effect wears off, saving HP. Keen Eye disallows accuracy to go down, and again, Pidgeot is a flying type, so the speed is good for landing attacks. Big Pecks disallows defense to go down. Both abilities, while useful, only go into effect when a single move is wasted on lowering the specific status effect. So covering the one that lasts for a few turns and loses more HP is the better choice for Yzak.

Jr.'s Flareon got Flash Fire (as opposed to Guts). Flash Fire makes Flareon immune to fire-type attacks, and ups its own fire attacks-- meaning if the opponent is a fire type but doesn't have Flash Fire, it can still be hit-- it's representive of the URTV link which is why I went for that instead of Guts-- which ups attack if you are hit by a status ailment.

Iolaous' Abra got Synchronize (as opposed to Inner Focus and Magic Guard). Which is an ability that passes any status effect onto the caster. I was more between that and Inner Focus which I would honestly still wibble on and possibly change up if I still played Iolaous. Inner Focus doesn't allow Pokemon to flinch, which I find to be a associative trait for a character like him. But at the same time, eventually learning how to use the Hadron Shield reflects a move like Synchronize in terms of basically deflecting an attack.

Now onto movesets, which may be a little less tl;dry.

Dio's Butterfree:
- Aerial Ace: Very aptly named for a flying master like Dio. Evades accuracy and evasion stats when it hits, and can hit more than one opponent in triple battles. It's speedy and a good blow, which are Dio's specialties.
- Acrobatics: Being a flying attack, also very aptly named for a character like Dio. :) Also able to hit more in triple battles, and depending on held items and lack of PP, gets stronger (sometimes tripling). This fit well with Guilder's being enhanced and able to hit harder.
- Silver Wind: Another sky-related attack, though this one is a bug type, to even out the playing field a little. Then, sans accuracy and evasion, it has a chance to up any stat after use, which is mucho useful. Again, reflecting on Dio's strength.
- Psybeam: Chosen over Hyperbeam because of its psychic type attack. Remember that Butterfree has the Tinted Lens ability, so elemental attacks that would be not very effective are now hit as normal attacks. And since psychic attack DOES have its own opposing types it's strong against, it's better than having gone for the normal-type attack which doesn't really have super effective counters. (SEE WHY I WENT WITH TINTED LENS WITH THESE TYPE-ATTACKS GUYS oho) I also just wanted an attack that wasn't another flying type but rather matched a little better with Dio's own jedi lightsaber fightan.

(spoilers, if I were a terrible person, and if Butterfree could learn the move (it can't) I'd give it the Amnesia ability)

Yzak's Pidgeot:
- Air Slash: A well rounded flying attack with a chance to make the opponent flinch. Fits well not just with Yzak's flying robot ability, but slashing is a close-combat attack, so fits well with Yzak and his preference to that fighting style.
- Roost: Coordinators can heal fairly quickly, so having Roost on the roster made sense to have as a good healing attack that also reflects that.
- Agility: Ups speed x2. As a close-range attacker, speed is half of the key of dealing damage without taking much while you make your way in, so speed is important for a Pokemon that mirrors Yzak-type attacks.
- Steel Wing: A steel type attack with the ability to raise the user's defense. Not flying as a secondary type, but wing attacks reflect flight, and steel and the defense buff basically call back to giant metal mobile suits for Yzak. |D

Jr.'s Flareon:
- Fire Blast: Basically the hugest fire-type attack explosion with the added chance of burning the opponent. And that obviously references Jr.'s own Red Dragon giant red all-consuming attack.
- Bite: Being small but powerful, bite is more a point to Jr.'s normal attacks ala his guns. Quick and sharp and strong and not bad at causing the opponent to flinch, either.
- Secret Power: Covers a lot of things for Jr.-- first off is how he tries to hide his actual URTV powers. Secondly is because being genetically enhanced, his physical attacks are a little more punch-packing than normal (it's a normal type attack, initially) even though he's still small and easily tossable. Third is that this attack has a chance for a secondary effect depending on the environment, which reflects the different elemental Ether attacks Jr. has in-game.
- Double Team: Like said above, Jr. is powerful on his own, physically, but is tiny, so if landed with a hard enough hit, would still feel it. Double Team raises evasion by making copies of the user. So not only does it work out in terms of reflecting that for Jr., but it's also a fun clone joke.

Iolaous' Abra:
- Teleport: PRETTY SELF EXPLANATORY like above. Iolaous' main ability is to teleport, which is why I went with Abra in the first place. In battle it helps to escape/get to a safer area quicker if the Pokemon needs to recollect itself. Iolaous' teleporting comes in handy SO MUCH in the series so obviously I needed this.
- Psychic: A pretty solid attack with added effect of possibly lowering special defense. More chosen for Iolaous' mecha attack impact and since it's a long-range attack-- as Iolaous also gots the gun at his side.
- Shadow Ball: Same as above, really! This attack also, in some incarnations, looks like it's a jet of energy coming out of some kind of wormhole/teleporty portal.
- Calm Mind: Raises special attack and defense. I chose this as a nod his Iolaous' ability to really focus his mind enough to approach and even touch Dhianeila (where usually he would collapse from her power).

And finally, Natures! These are easy as balls, because they reflect their trainers.

Dio's Butterfree is Jolly. Chosen not just because JOLLY but its special stat is speed. Special attack is decreased some. Favorite food and sweet and dislikes dry food. Which is Dio. Also considered Naughty, Impish, Hasty and Quirky, but Jolly had the best matching stats.

Yzak's Pidgeot was Brave. I didn't take into account the stats and flavors, really, so those are a little off (power is increased, which works. Speed is decreased, though the attacks it had made up for it in ways. Likes Spicy and dislikes sweet which is eh.) I went with brave mostly because Yzak himself is brave.

Jr.'s Flareon was Relaxed. Increased stat is defense which helps with the tininess. Decreased is speed, but again, attacks and other things make up for it. Likes sour and dislikes sweet, which don't match Jr. himself. It's rather the opposite, so that's also cute for his Pokemon to like the opposite in that area.

Iolaous' Abra was Serious. Also chosen more because Iolaous himself is serious. Has no stat changes or likes/dislikes for flavors. o>

It lures enemies with its sweet aroma, and attacks with dancer-like elegance. <- seriously it's like it was MADE FOR HER
